Surplus Medical Supplies

Hi, Doll Parts

I am Crypto's sister Eliza. I have the following message for you to post. We do not have contact information for many of her friends. When you put up the post, I'll give a comment and let people know they can send stuff to me.

POST:

Crypto was very severely injured Friday, April 27 while trying to board a train in Innsbruck, Austria. Both legs have been amputated about 5" above the knee. She is in an induced coma. An additional operation is scheduled for Wednesday (tomorrow). The hospital she is in has a specialized trauma center and has very good equipment.

Her mother, Sally, will be flying out on Thursday and arriving on Friday. Her sister Magda will be out this weekend. We do not know if she will be conscious by then.

We do not know when she will be coming home but when she does, she will need as much love and support as possible. Please send her your thoughts and messages. >>>>

Hello lovely ESD peeps..... once again, I am coming down to visit your fair realm (from Seattle) in the interest of playing with you all at Decomp and to start sincerely my job-hunting for my planned move to the Bay (Before Christmas!! What a YEAR!!!!

First and Foremost I want to THANK my Brothers and Sisters in the Yellow shirts. You Guys and Gals ROCK. Even after these 9 years on the Playa, I am Awestruck by how well we work together acting as the safety Net under the Circus we know and love. We come from all points on the compass, from all different systems and experiences, and we work like we are cut the same cloth. You might say we are the patchwork quilt that acts as the security blanket. Bless ALL of you.

As many people have said, this year we covered many high visibility incidents. We handled these incidents with utmost professionalism and seamless operations. This fact is a testimony as to who we are and the pride we have in our place on this stage.

Lastly I would like to thank personally all of you that I worked with. Every year I learn more and more about "leadership". This knowledge is from watching the positive leadership styles around me. I appreciate not only the Leadership but also the "followership" that I see on the Playa. People seemed more than willing to do what was asked of them and a LOT more. That makes for a great organization.

I am looking forward to see and talking to you so. To those that I worked with, THANK YOU!! To those of you that I was not blessed to meet and work with, I hope to do so next year. Those of you that I was not able to give 1 last hug and kiss to, I OWE you one!!

I'd like the Department to Learn from my experience

Those of you who were at the paella dinner may remember my wailing.
Sorry about that.
I had just found out htat I had missed Scott's memorial from the department he loved.
No one told me when and where it was happening, and I had forgotten that there was mention of lost department members in the pre-burn brief.
My heart was broken all over.
Please, try and be clear to people who might not be fully up on department traditions, but who are mourning department members when and where it is.
I also know of two department members who wished to be there and weren't.
I don't have any suggestions, but I do want to say that I had gone to the playa to mourn Scott with people who mattered to him very much; missing that felt in part like a slap in his face.
I don't know what else to say. I want to be gracious, but even a year later it's a sore spot. I'm sorry.

Hey all....

I miss all of you. In a good way.

I want to thank all of you for a bunch of things.....

1) For the welcome - Concerns about getting there as a virgin, wondering how I would fit in, and how I could contribute vanished pretty early.
2) For the professionalism - The concerns about the strange environment for a Fire and Medical Aid to operate in dropped when I saw how inventively the group had adapted to suit. IC on burns was mint, radio comms were first rate, patient contacts professional.
3) For the sustainance - Food, water, drink, shade all provided in ample amounts.
4) For the comraderie - By Wednesday, I felt like I belonged.

I left BM wanting to contribute more to the team next year.

San Francisco Lovefest needs medical volunteers!

San Francisco Lovefest (formerly called Loveparade San Francisco) is in its fabulous third year celebration of electronic music and dance involving 25 floats in a parade down Market St., 200 DJs playing at Civic Center plaza, and over 50,000 people dancing in the streets with many hundreds of volunteers that make it all happen. Similar to Burning Man camps, the floats in San Francisco Lovefest are produced and paid for by local and national collectives to showcase the creative spirit of the electronic dance music community.

San Francisco Lovefest is a non-profit organization based on community, and a community needs help keeping safe and healthy when things just go a little south of right. In that spirit, SF Lovefest is seeking medical volunteers to help with first aid, first response, and taking care of our own. Medical volunteers will be out working with the crowds, so you'll still have plenty of time to wander and listen to some great music while being there, just in case.

So what does it take to be a volunteer? You need to be a currently certified and practicing EMT, Paramedic, Nurse, or Doctor with at least one year experience and a willingness to volunteer some of your time. Volunteers will be working side by side with Lovefest's allied partners for advanced life support and clinical care, so you'll have extra helping hands when you need it. Oh, and did we mention that you'll get a neat tee shirt to top it all off? We look forward to hearing form you!

Lizard Birthing Story

If you have raised kids (or been one), and gone through the

pet syndrome including toilet-flush burials for dead goldfish, the story

below will have you laughing out LOUD!

Overview: I had to take my son's lizard to the vet.

Here's what happened:

Just after dinner one night, my son came up to tell me there

was "something wrong" with one of the two lizards he holds prisoner in his

room.

"He's just lying there looking sick," he told me. "I'm

serious, Dad. Can you help?"

I put my best lizard-h ealer statement on my face and followed

him into his bedroom. One of the little lizards was indeed lying on his

back, looking stressed. I immediately knew what to do.

"Honey," I called, "come look at The lizard!" "Oh my gosh," my

wife diagnosed after a minute. "She's having babies."

"What?" my son demanded. "But their names are Bert and Ernie,

Mom!"

I was equally outraged. "Hey, how can that be? I thought we

said we didn't want them to reproduce", I accused my wife.

"Well, what do you want me to do, post a sign in their cage?"

she inquired. (I actually think she said this sarcastically!)

"No, but you were supposed to get two boys!" I reminded her,

( in my most loving, calm, sweet voice, while gritting my teeth together).

Yeah, Bert and Ernie!" my son agreed.

"Well, it's just a little hard to tell on some guys, you

know," she informed me. (Again with the sarcasm, you think?)

By now the rest of the family had gathered to see what was

going on. I shrugged, deciding to make the best of it.

"Kids, this is going to be a wondrous experience," I

announced. "We're about to witness the miracle of birth."

"OH, Gross!", they shrieked.

"Well, isn't THAT just Great! What are we going to do with a

litter of tiny little lizard babies?" my wife wanted to know. (I really do

think she was being snotty here, too. don't you?)

We peered at the patient. After much struggling, what looked

like a tiny foot would appear briefly, vanishing a scant second later.

"We don't appear to be making much progress," I noted.

"It's breech," my wife whispered, horrified.

"Do something, Dad!" my son urged.

"Okay, okay. " Squeamishly, I reached in and grabbed the foot

when it next appeared, giving it a gingerly tug. It disappeared. I tried

several more times with the same results.

"Should I call 911?" my eldest daughter wanted to know. "Maybe

they could talk us through the trauma." (You see a pattern here with the

females in my house?)

"Let's get Ernie to the vet," I said grimly.

We drove to the vet with my son holding the cage in his lap.

"Breathe, Ernie, breathe," he urged.

"I don't think lizards do Lamaze," his mother noted to him.

(Women can be so cruel to their own young. I mean what she does to me is one

thing, but this boy is of her womb, for God's sake.)

The vet took Ernie back to the examining room and peered at

the little animal through a magnifying glass.

"What do you think, Doc, a C-section?" I suggested

scientifically.

"Oh, very interesting," he murmured. "Mr. and Mrs. Cameron,

may I speak to you privately for a moment?"

I gulped, nodding for my son to step outside.

"Is Ernie going to be okay?" my wife asked.

"Oh, perfectly," the vet assured us. "This lizard is not in

labor. In fact, that isn't EVER going to happen... Ernie is a boy. You see,

Ernie is a young male, and occasionally, as they come into maturity, like

most male species, they masturbate. Just the way he did, lying on his back."

He blushed, glancing at my wife. "Well, you know what I'm

saying, Mr. Cameron."

We were silent, absorbing this. "So Ernie's

just...just...Excited," my wife offered.

"Exactly," the vet replied, relieved that we understood. More

silence. Then my vicious, cruel wife started to giggle, and giggle, and then

even laugh loudly.

"What's so funny?" I demanded, knowing, but not believing that

the woman I married would commit the upcoming affront to my flawless

manliness. Tears were now running down her face.

"It's just...that...I'm picturing you pulling on

its...its...teeny little..." she gasped for more air to bellow in laughter

once more.

"That's enough," I warned.

We thanked the Veterinarian and hurriedly bundled the lizards

and our son back into the car. He was glad everything was going to be okay.

"I know Ernie's really thankful for what you've done, Dad," he

told me.

"Oh, you have NO idea," my wife agreed, collapsing with

laughter.

Scott Lofgren on Playa Memorial?

I was going to wait a month for this, but I have a chance at a theme camp and they need to get their stuff together as soon as possible.

When I did the Oakland memorial, I promised myself I wouldn't do another anytime soon. I just don't have the energy. But I think there are a lot of ESD and other BM peeps who would like to remember Scott. If there is one, I'd like to attend. I have the book from the Oakland funeral and I was hoping people might want to write down memories in it. There are lots of things I could bring--i.e. the shirt he was wearing when he was evacuated in 02--if that's not hitting too close to home.

Does anyone want to set this up? I will help as I can, but I can't take the lead on it.

I think it would be a shame not to remember him there.

How can people help?

Is there anyone who would like to do something special
for the ceremony? The Civil Air Patrol cadets are
going to do a flag ceremony and Kate has offered to sing (I'd
love to take you up on it, if you are available then,
Kate, and sorry I didn't ask until now...) and there
will be teh opportunity for everyone to get up and say
a few words if they wish, but I am working to get a
program together on Friday, so I want to know by
Thursday.

Food--a friend has offered to get a caterer for part
of it, and my neighbors are chipping in, but if any
one wants to bring something it will be graciously
received. Or an urn of coffee or other drinks. One
thing to note--the church stove/oven has a gas leak
and is thus unusable. However, there is a microwave
and it is possible that we could heat it at a friend's
house.

Photos and mementos
I'll be putting up photos and mementos on a
table--including patches for places he worked or
volunteered for. If you have something you want to
loan or donate bring it. If you have electronic
photos you want to send me for inclusion in a DVD that
someone is making to be shone there, please send them
to me. Any words that you may want to add too.
Because of the shortness of time I wont guarantee that
she'll be able to use everything, but we can try.
Also, if you have copies of photos that you want to
keep, or if you can make copies, I'd love that.
Please include some words about the situation so that
I'll know the story behind it.

We need a DVD player and moniter.

Pressuring Travis

I am bumming. A midnight call last night to find out that Travis is about to sign on for a one year firefighter tour in Iraq! Holy crap. The selfish me can already feel the phantom pain akin to the Hawkeye loss of two years ago.... what's Fire Camp without the random Travis copyright diatribe? And fried turkey? Those twinkly flat snack eyes?
At least I'll have my delicious coat. But dude- damn it.
